Drivers Getting Lost in China with Counterfeit GPS Maps

Sep

The newest crime in China…. counterfeiting GPS maps. Apparently large numbers of people are getting lost because of the poorly produced GPS maps people are installing in their cars. Price is the predominant reason the counterfeit maps are becoming more popular with official maps costing about $125 each. Counterfeit maps can be had for as little as two dollars.

“Generally a GPS device costs about 10,000 yuan ($1,200 USD) but a fake one equipped with a counterfeit electric map can be available for several thousand yuan or even less. Both its function and accuracy are doubtful.”
