Add Text-To-Speech to Garmin c530

We came across some instructions a hack today (found here) that will add text-to-speech voices and functionality to a Garmin c530 or c510… devices which otherwise doesn’t include that feature. The hack isn’t for the faint at hart, could destroy the firmware on your GPS (rendering your GPS a paper-weight) and I can only imagine is not supported, and fully discouraged by Garmin.

I suspect that Garmin will take steps to prevent this kind of “free upgrade” from happening in the future, and may even disable the hack from working in future firmware updates. We do not recommend anyone try this hack.

Our advice if you want text-to-speech is to sell your c530 and go buy the c550.
