Cobra Nav ONE 5000

Cobra has also released a few details surrounding another upcoming GPS, the Cobra NAV ONE 5000. You won’t be able to get your hands on this device until sometime around July - September, however it looks like it will be a device that will compete with the Nuvi 6xx series of widescreen, slim GPS models. The Nav ONE 5000 will come with a five inch wide display and has a slim profile. We’ll let you know more details as we have them.

  1. Got a NavOne5000
wished I’d kept my 4000 unit.
It crashes, it locks, it has lots of bugs.

Use it in Canada and ’stadium’ icons appear all over the maps even with all ‘iconons’ turned off.

Maps still way out of date.

  3. What a big piece of crap this thing is. I am a truck driver and bought one to help out with the job. After 28 days it froze up and wouldn’t work again. Traded it in for another and it started crashing, froze up, stopped speaking to me and eventually crashed like the first one. I would expect for 480.00 this thing would last more than 30 days! What a piece of junk! I would not recommend it to anyone. I broke down and got a DEPLHI and it is 50,000 times better than this POS!

  5. I bought the NavOne 2950 about 3 years ago from QVC for about $500. It worked great for us as we traveled from Calif. to Tenn. But as we came back into San Diego County we noticed that the Interstate Signs on the screen didn’t match right. I checked the update site and found out there wasn’t any support for new updates for the 2950. I e-mailed Cobra and they said that the mapping service went out of business and they offered to upgrade my GPS with the 4000 unit for $150. I sent in my 2950 and they sent me the 5000 GPS instead. So far after about 15 small trips I love it as it is much easier to use and the maps are great. They sent me one with the very latest update version 8 which came out Mar 17, 2008.

  6. Also this GPSM 5000 includes in it’s mapping system Red Light Camera notification. I was driving to work today and 3 camera clicks went off and I looked at the map and saw a Stoplight/Camera icon. The notification comes about 1 block from the camera intersection. My co-worker received a citation in the mail a couple of months ago showing he was speeding on a freeway in Arizona. They are starting to put camera’s on the overpasses. He paid $150 to go to driver school or he could have paid $300 for the ticket.

  7. I was under the impression that speed cam POIs were illegal in the UA. How do they get around that?
