At Apples WWDC event today they introduced a new iPhone feature called Find My iPhone. MobileMe Subscribers will be able to log into the MobileMe website and see where their phone is located on a Google Map. You can send a special message to the phone from the website and the message will display with an alert sound even if the phone is in silent mode.

Also, while previously available to Exchange users, MobileMe subscribers can now remotely wipe the data on their phone should it be lost or stolen.

It was also announced that the new iPhone 3Gs will have an electronic compass. Maps will automatically rotate to your current heading.
