Garmin has announced a new GPS product, the Garmin GVN 52, aka the “Black Box”. The Garmin GVN 52 Black Box integrates with existing mobile audio/video entertainment systems in vehicles to provide GPS navigation features to those devices. So if your vehicle is already tricked out with a nice stereo and video system you can add GPS navigation capabilities to those devices without the need for another screen in your vehicle. The device relies on the existing StreetPilot interface and can even be setup to include live traffic information via the Garmin GTM 10 or XM traffic through the Garmin GXM 30.

“This announcement marks the first time consumer electronics companies can use Garmin’s proven GPS navigation applications and integrate it with their audio-video entertainment system,” said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s vice president of marketing. “Because of our diverse product line, we are able to offer customers a full range of options that can be easily tailored to their specific product.”
