Garmin Mobile Fuel Locator

Garmin has announced new features for their Garmin Mobile application for mobile phones. New features include a fuel locator, real time traffic, and weather updates.

Probably the most exciting feature is the fuel locator which not only can find nearby gas stations, but can also locate gas stations by which have the cheapest prices. You can select a grade of fuel and navigate to the closest fuel stations with the least expensive price.

Current weather conditions and five day forecasts are also now included for any location in North America.

Finally, traffic information is provided in real time to allow you to avoid accidents, traffic jams, construction, or other incidents which could impact your travel time. The traffic information comes from Clear Channel Total Traffic.

“Since launching Garmin Mobile, we have introduced an entirely new audience to GPS navigation,” said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s vice president of marketing. “We believe this new expanded content makes Garmin Mobile even more appealing because it lets drivers make educated decisions about their every day commuting activities — from routing around traffic to finding the least expensive fuel. No other handset based navigation system in the U.S. offers this much content at such an affordable price.”

Garmin Mobile is currently available on 14 phones from Sprint and Nextel and costs $10 per month.

  1. I have a Garmin Zumo 550. I would like more fuel waypoints. Is there any upgrade giving me more fuel stations? I would love it if you combined the AAA waypoints into the gps device.

  2. Great idea, with fuel getting as expensive as it is to be able to find cheap fuel stops easily is hot.
