I bought one (refurb) and returned it to Garmin because it took over half an hour to sync up with the satellites, if it ever succeeded at all. However, the replacement they sent me (which the wrong maps) is just as bad. I would not buy another Garmin unit. I also have a Magellan Crossover which works much better.

Can you advise about converting a 200W to a 205W? The 205W shows the current speed as well as Speed Limit on the main screen. 200W does not. Can you load a 205W image into the 200W?

I have a nuvi 200W. Is there any software/firmware upgrade to allow track log? For me Track log is one of the most useful function of a GPS, but NUVI 200W does not have this function. For this reason I keep using my Garmin III.

Richard, it sounds as though your Nuvi can’t find the internal maps. If you go to Tools->Settings->Map->Map Info, does it show any maps and are they checked?

After loading up my 200w and get to the picture of “Where To” and “View Map”, I click on either one and it says there is no information. It gives me no maps or addresses that I have saved. I have already gone through the “Resetting” process,to no avail. I would appreciate any help any one can give me. Thank You.

Bought my Nuvi 205W at [deleted] back in December of 2008. It worked great in all conditions. Always took it in the house after arriving. Today I plugged it in the car and it has lost all memory. I hit the dots as requested, it re-calibrated, then this screen popped up: “NO DETAILED MAPS FOUND THAT SUPPORT ROUTING. THE NUVI CANNOT BE USED WITHOUT THEM.” I shut it off, turned it on, unpluged it, plugged it back in many times. The Garmin screen comes up, it says “LOADING MAPS” then a load beep……… the darned pop-up screen comes back on and I can’t get passed it. Any suggestions?

Do you (or anyone else) know of a web page that shows the GPS units that have user replaceable batteries?

Virtually every street GPS on the market today comes with a sealed internal battery. There are very few that have a user replaceable battery, but some of the few that do are from Garmin.

Do not buy a Garmin 200w. I bought one new in April 08 and now in January 09 the internal battery will not hold a charge. The batter cannot be changed by the user – has to go back to factory. They want $300 to change the battery…. the unit cost $250 new at Walmart.

These people build lousy products. DO NOT BUY GARMIN.
