  1. Just wondering if you have heard if the traffic option works well — is it worth the extra $?

  2. It really depends on the types of traffic data, quality of signal, and type of traffic in each area. For some places and people it works great, for others not so much.

  3. There was some mention of the Garmin traffic coming now for free but you have to put up with ads when the vehicle is stopped. Do you know if that applies to the 265T? ie is the only difference between the 255 and 265 that the 265 gives you the FM receiver cable, but you still have to watch ads for traffic?

Also can you turn off the traffic function if you don’t want to use it?

  4. The ads support the free traffic, but if you turn off the traffic, the ads will not appear. The ads do not show up (if traffic is not turned off) when the car is in motion. You can compare all Garmin models on garmin.com. I also liked the new Navigon 2200T which has improved on last year’s 2100.

  5. I’ve been deciding between a few gps and was wondering which is the newer product the nuvi 265t or nuvi 750? And is there a significant difference if one is newer than the other?

  6. does the nuvi 265 bluetooth work well. i have not been satisfied with bluetooth in general. that is my cell and an ear piece from t-mobil. is the communication good or is there a lot of background noise?

    • Without checking that specific combination of devices it is difficult to tell. Success often depends on the combination, rather than just one end. But in general many people are not too thrilled with Bluetooth on GPS devices and often keep using their existing Bluetooth headseats instead.

  7. Does anyone know whether the free traffic in the upcoming 1260T the same as the free traffic in the 265T? I’m seeing the 265T at low prices, presumably in anticipation of the new models, and would jump on one, but not if the 1260T’s free traffic is a step up over the 265T.

    Thanks.

  8. Does anyone no how to register your garmin 265t. it will not register at the garmin site it keeps telling me it can’t find the system. I noticed alot of people are having problems with this system in registering and updating this system. Someone even stated garmin told him to download firefox and that didn’t help. This is a big problem if you are unable to register and update the system is garbage if this is the case

    • To add to the tutorial, TTS stands for “Text to Speech”. The street names are stored in the unit, which is how they cna be displayed on the screen. Voices that are not TTS have a set of canned phrases they can speak, but that’s it. TTS voices can speak any of the “text” in the unit.

      • The tutorial was really about how to enable it. We’ve put all of the “what is it?” info in our Text-to-speech article we linked to from that tutorial.

        • My apologies if I sounded critical. I find that knowing what abbreviations stand for helps me keep things straight (like Simple Mail Transfer Protocol or People Can’t Memorize Computer Industry Acronyms!)

  11. My Garmin Nuvi 265T always shows no traffic congetion even when I am stuck in traffic.
It keeps giving the green sign on the left and when I click on it it says no traffic on the way. But I always find traffic.

  12. Does anyone know if the screen brightness and voice quality is the same for the 255 vs, 265T?
Does it pay to get a refurbished mode4l?
