  10. Looking for an Israeli map for my Garmin Nuvi 670.

  11. I called up Garmin and they told me that there are no maps of Israel that can be downloaded. Could it be a security issue? We are visiting soon and are very disappointed.

    Barbara Boness - October 6th, 2007
  12. Security issue?! I don’t think so… there are at least 3 other vendors providing e-maps of Israel for PC, pocket PC, Palm. Unfortunately Garmin is not interested enough to cut a deal with any of them to provide Israel maps compatible for Garmin. That’s disappointing!

  13. I don’t think the lack of maps for Israel has to do with the fact that they are not interested enough. If you tap on restaurants - they don’t list Kosher - but most other ethnic typs are there (though they do show the Kosher retaurants near you). Other GPS brands have Kosher food as an option. If you tap on voice languages or menu display language there are many languages available that you probably never heard of - but not Hebrew. So you figure out why there is no map of Israel.

  14. Pretty obvious isn’t it, so as not to offend the towelheads.

  15. They have a middle East SD - You can find there any arab by name, but Jerusalem, Tel Aviv is not as important - for Nuvi.

  16. In response to an email to Garmin customer support, I received the following message:

“Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

“The fact that Israel maps are not sold through Garmin is not a choice made by Garmin. It has to do with security of the country of Israel. I
have been told you can find Garmin compatible maps on the Internet. I have also been told you can purchase the maps after you get to the country.

    http://www8.garmin.com/cgi-bin/dealers.pl?country=Israel&dealer_type=All&SUBMIT2=Show+Dealers+for+this+Country

“This is the only Garmin dealer that is on the Garmin web site. It looks like they might be primarily aviation but could also be into
    automotive.”

    Howard - February 26th, 2008
  17. In response to #16. I have contacted this vendor a while ago and they said they do not have any automotive maps for Israel, and will not have in the future. We should try and see how to convert maps from other brands into Garmin. anyone have any ideas?

  18. I too just bought the nuvi 360. Love its features and am so sad that I will have no ability to use it in my frequents visits to Israel. I hope Garmin comes through.

  19. Like many before me, just bought a Garmin device as I was falsely informed that there are maps of Israel available….now I will have to return it as I learnt that there are none around and none compatible for use with my GPS.

  20. Does anyone know of a way to get Israel street maps onto an SD card that would be compatible for use with the Garmin Nuvi 350?

    Andrew - April 9th, 2008
  21. Garmin doesn’t make its own maps. It’s using Navteq maps (and so do many other GPS manufacturers). Garmin doesn’t offer Israeli maps due to the fact that Navteq doesn’t make these. It’s not because of the Israeli government, as far as I know. For israeli maps, try Mio GPS. They are bad GPS devices and far from being accurate, but they have the Israeli maps. You can also try ASUS GPS which uses I-go 2008 and shall perform better but I never experienced it yet. Good luck.

  22. I am at present in the US and amd going back home to Israel. I was contemplating on buying the nuvi350 0r 360, but reading all your postings made me think again. What would be then the best choice of GPS? As far as I know they sell the MIO and IGO in Israel that is all, do you have any sugestions? Thanks.

  23. i belive the only way to use israel street map on garmin automotive gps unit is by converting existing israel map to .img garmin format.

  24. I just spent a couple of months in Israel , travelled in many taxis with GPS units and talked to many about Israeli maps. The conclusion is that there are 2 maps available, both are not good but the most commonly used one is available with the Mio GPS which looks to me about 5 years behind the current Garmin software and maps.

  26. Today I looked on the garmin website because I was going to purchase a garmin GPS. I wanted to find out about maps of Israel. I didn’t get that far because in looking at the Garmin map of the countries that they deal with- Israel was left off the map- despite the fact that they had 2 dealers for support of their product listed in Israel. If we are not even on the Garmin map, then we are probably being left off deliberately.
I left some messages but have received no response from Garmin

    Batya - October 9th, 2008
  27. I’ve not yet tried this, but here is how to download free Israel maps to your Garmin:
    http://gpstracklog.typepad.com/gps_tracklog/2007/12/free-maps-for-y.html
and here is the map data itself:
    http://mapcenter2.cgpsmapper.com/mapview.php?id=1555
Try the “Israel Tourist Map” at the top.
I’d be interested in hearing anyone’s experience trying this process.
