Paul, I'm sorry you got the impression somewhere that Garmin offers free maps. If Wal-Mart told you that then I'd take the issue up with them. However I've never seen any marketing materials from Garmin mentioning free map updates. Garmin does offer users the ability to download the current map if the device didn't ship with the current map. You have 60 days to take advantage of that offer (not 6 months). But in all of the materials I've seen on that program it is pretty clear about the 60 day limit mentioning it several times in the intro text.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi from Wal-Mart. The main reason I chose this model is for the free updates. I tried to update my maps and was told that because I had not registered the unit within 6 months of purchase, I would have to pay. I am thoroughly disgusted- this is clearly a scam whereby Garmin makes money out of those who do not read & abide by the instructions from cover to cover. Several emails later and the reps are playing the blame game. Based on this experience with Garmin, I will not buy from them again.

Because it isn't a charger designed for use with the Nuvi your device is going into USB Mode. The chargers designed for the Nuvi won't do that.

HI, I just purchased the used Nuvi 350 off the internet and didnt realize I bought the unit without a charger or any other parts....Just the unit itself...Anyway I have a blackberry and I tried using its USB cable to charge it but all I get is a picture of the Nuvi connected to the computer I also get the same picture when I hook it up to the actual computer or if I try to charge it in the car...is this normal and can I fix this...I would love to be able to use the unit while plugged in to the car charger?? Im hoping its because its not the right cables but I want to make sure theres no defect before I purchase the cable. Thank you for any help you can provide!

Could someone please help me? My nuvi 350 is 3 yrs. old. When I put in an address to get where I am going, it sends me nowhere near where I need to go? What should I do?

Well all right. Last night I reloaded the latest release and found that the program defaulted to American English voice not the American English TTS - Text To Speech version. That fixed that. Happy now.
