[...] Ford dealerships in Germany are now selling the Garmin StreetPilot i3, StreetPilot C310, and StreetPilot C330 gps systems directly to customers when they purchase vehicles. “We are happy that Ford, one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers, has selected Garmin as one of their GPS providers,” said Susanne Crefeld, Director Sales & Marketing at GPS GmbH in Grafelfing, the German Garmin exclusive distributor. “Mobile navigation systems are highly sought after, and this agreement marks the first time Ford dealers can offer customers a Garmin GPS for their navigation solution.” [...]

[...] The reviewer didn’t note what happens when you receive a call while navigating. The Palm PR guy told her that you cannot make calls while using the TomTom software but didn’t address what happens when you receive a call. Overall, though, I’d rate Palm’s GPS kit as a strong candidate for drivers who want their handheld to double as a navigation tool. TomTom’s software is a strong incentive–and if you already own a Bluetooth-enabled Palm, it’s certainly cheaper to buy the Palm kit than to purchase a dedicated GPS system such as Garmin’s soon-to-be-released StreetPilot i3 [...]

[...] A new review has come out for the Garmin StreetPilot i3. The reviewer liked the very small size of the Garmin StreetPilot i3 (about the size of a baseball) and that it is reasonably priced. One complaint was that maps do not come preinstalled. Instead you need to load map data from a CD onto a memory card which then goes into the Garmin StreetPilot i3. But it’s not too difficult an operation and may be just one small inconvenience to owning one of the smallest GPS units poised to join the marketplace [...]

[...] cnet has reviewed the Garmin StreetPilot i3 Vehicle Navigation GPS SystemGarmin StreetPilot i3 GPS. What they liked: No larger than a baseball … and portable [the] Garmin StreetPilot i3 Vehicle Navigation GPS System Garmin StreetPilot i3 can move from car to car. You get a DVD with maps of North America with nearly 6 million points of interest (POI), text and voice-guided directions, and a 3D bird’s-eye-view mapping perspective. In addition, the i3 automatically reroutes your course if you happen to miss a turn, and it allows you to add custom POIs, such as safety cameras and school zones, from third parties.
