Garmin WebUpdater for Macs

Hallelujah! Garmin has released beta version 2.0.0.1 for the Mac version of their WebUpdater product. This is an important milestone for Garmin fulfilling their previously announced desires to provide Apple compatible versions of all of their software products. I’ve downloaded the application and updated the firmware in several Garmin devices I have lying around…. so far so good.

Garmin WebUpdater MacInstallation of the WebUpdater software was easy, and functioned just like most other Mac applications. The WebUpdater recognized the device(s) connected and applied applicable updates of firmware, voices, as well as car icons.

My only complaint is that after the update is applied it says “Please disconnect the device from your computer and allow it to start up.” If you follow that instruction before ejecting the mounted Nuvi drive from your computer (or clicking the ‘Done’ button at the opposite end of the window) you will get an angry message about prematurely disconnecting the drive.

Otherwise, all updates were successfully applied. Since this is beta software, it comes with the following warning from Garmin.

Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.
