Geocaching in Canada National Parks
Parks Canada has released a new policy regarding geocaches in Canada’s National Parks. It is an interim policy and the public is invited to post comments about their proposal. The new policy goes like this:
- Virtual caches will be allowed on official trails and must carry and educational message related to the location.
- No new physical caches will be allowed and existing geocaches will be removed.
Personally, I find these regulations are an appropriate response to concerns about geocaching. Geocaching has grown so much in the past few years and I’ve even seen “trails” develop around popular geocaches. I’ve seen geocaches placed in locations where there is a very fragile environment that should have been considered prior to the geocache being placed.
