Does anyone know if the work around published in the original article will still work? I found a refurbished 720 on sale and I am thinking of going this route.

Thanks

Got a 720 for after Christmas.. found out a few interesting things.. 1st, the FM xmitter feature has been removed (contrary to the website publicity. :O( 2nd, you need a special cable to hook you're IPOD up that was supposed to xmit the supported info through your FM xmitter. :O( 3rd, Current maps are V8.15. I'm really not sure if I should be PO'd or not?? According to TT there is a cable available to work around the issue. Seems to me, if they disabled the FM they should at least provide you with the cable gratis. Seems to reek of false advertising?? Anyway, a very nice young lady in tech support is telling me how to get my maps up-to-date. But the FM thing is a real let down, if only because the unit is not as advertised!!

I purchased a refurbished 720 through tigerdirect last week and it came with the 7.X app and 7.X maps of North America. I updated the app to 8.010 via tomtomHome with no problem at all and found the show lane image icon had been added to preferences but when I tried activating, received a warning indicating that lane guidance didn't work with the map release that I had.
I contacted TomTom via email yesterday, requesting they allow me to update the map under the 30 day guarantee and within the hour of my request was able to download and install North America version 810 through TomTomHome version 2 on a windows XP64 platform with no hassles.
he lane guidance icon now works with no warning and I also have the option of IQ routing in my planning preferences. I don't know if either of them work as of yet, I live in Calgary and believe that the lane images are limited to some of the bigger US cities like Chicago and New York.
I have tried creating a short route but don't see the option "fastest route - IQ routes" but that doesn't mean that it isn't active on my 720.
Just wanted to let everyone know that it appears that both of these options are available for the 720 with the latest app and maps.
I will update this message if I find that these option in fact work.
Also, I'm really impressed that TT customer care would respond to me within an hour and on a statutory holiday none the less.
Hope this helps!!!!

Nick, there has been many comments that Lane Assit feature is rearly working in the TomTom, infact in Toronto-Canada, I have heard TomTom sales guys tell me you will not see its use here. That said you did not say what map version and App version you are running. I know the latest App version 8.01 with map version 8.10 should give you lane assist and IQ routes. To verify that IQroutes is you should see at the bottom of the "show route summary" when you select "view route" in the main menu, something loke this "Fastest route-IQ Routes".

The same *version* map is capable of running on different devices. But each map is locked to the specific serial number device it was built for. So while the 720, 730, 920, and 930 all run the same map version number, they can only run a map that is designed for the specific serial number they were sold for. So a map that was locked to your 920 cannot be copied to the 720, even though it is the correct version.
