GetMeThere Pay as You Go Mobile GPS

Yet another GPS service provider for mobile phones has cropped up. It sure has been a busy summer for such services. The latest is a company called GetMeThere based in the UK. The product is called TARA Mobile SatNav and they have partnered with Toyota BG to offer the service. (TARA stands for Traffic Avoidance and Routing Application.)

The service is provided to your existing mobile phone and GPS receiver so you will need those before you use the service. However that sets this service apart from other services launched recently is that it is pay as you go. When you want to use the service you pay a fee for that one destination. So this service should be more useful to people who already own a compatible cellphone and GPS receiver and don’t need the service frequently.

Like most of the new services, GetMeThere offers turn by turn directions with voice commands, and traffic avoidance. The system also provides auto-zooming of maps as intersections appear; I wish more gps navigation packages out there supported this feature.

“With over 4.5m navigation systems expected to be sold this year across Europe, TARA Mobile SatNav has arrived just in time to provide a low cost, quality solution for the intelligent motorist. With GPS devices now available at around the £50 ($90, €74) mark, SatNav has become a must have for all motorists”. - Jon West, Director of GetMeThere.co.uk

The application is compatible with Nokia 3650, 3660, 6260, 6600, 6670, and 7610 as well as T-Mobile’s T-Mobile’s MDA II and Compact and O2’s XDA II range.
