Google Maps Street View

We’ve previously talked about 3D mapping from Tele Atlas and how maps like that will be the future of GPS devices. In addition to providing rendered 3D simulations, the Tele Atlas vans are also capturing video, which would potentially make photographic 3D models possible as well. Today we can show how something like that might look through Google’s new feature, Google Maps Street View.

Currently available in New York, Miami, Denver, LA, and San Francisco, these new maps actually show street level 3D views of the local area. You can move yourself around and view pictures of the city from nearly any location and looking in any direction. The underlying data appears to come from Immersive. But the best way to check it out is to test drive it yourself, or check out this video:
