GPS Saves Lost Hikers

In Cleveland County, North Carolina a couple is thankful their mobile phone included a GPS chip. The couple became lost while hiking and called 911 for assistance. Their phone sent their GPS coordinates to the 911 operator as they placed the call. Rescuers were able to use their own handheld GPS receiver to quickly locate the couple.

“We took the coordinate and programmed it into one of our hand held instruments on the way to the scene, and we were ready to go into the woods and try to locate the lady” – Dewey Cook, Cleveland County EMA
