Live Updates from Brightkite
New on GPSReview.net…. Live updates! A few times per year I go out and attend trade shows to see the latest gear and meet with industry reps. Covering those shows has always been a challenge in the past. Most of what we see and hear are short juicy tidbits of info that often don’t warrant a full article, but are worthy of somehow being discussed. In the past I’ve used short, bulleted lists which recap the information. But I think I’ve found a better tool….
Brightkite is a micro-blogging service similar in some ways to twitter, but instead makes maps and location a primary feature. We obviously had a fondness for location, so brightkite is a great fit.
Towards the end of this week I’ll be attending the Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City checking out the latest outdoor GPS gear. I’ll be posting updates to my brightkite account, but if you are not a subscriber, no worries– you can follow along from our homepage. (And if you need an invite to create your own brightkite account, I’ve got a few left.) I’ve built an interface where you can follow the news, see a map of where I am, and view display pictures of what I’m seeing. If you see a camera icon you can click the icon to view a photograph of the topic being discussed.
So now you can follow along with me as I check out the latest gear later this week. Just look for the ‘Live Updates’ section near the top of the right column on our homepage which will start to appear in the next hour or so.
