I realize it's been a while since any one has posted on this site but I have a problem with my new Magellan Maestro 4050. I attach it to the windshield and it seems to be tight and secure and then, suddenly, maybe 5 or 10 minutes later, the whole thing DROPS OFF. I'm afraid this will break the unit and I don't want to use the adhesive mount since I switch between my work car and personal car. Help!!!

Sluggish product. When you turn it off in one area, it doesn't quickly (within ten minutes??) realize that the location has changed when it resumes service.

And customer service is the worst. I specifically asked if the repair order said BOTH CHARGER AND UNIT are faulty and was assured it did.

The charger was returned still in five pieces. I have no idea if the unit itself works because I can't charge it. They offered to send a replacement "by 2 day shipping." After a week I called to ask "where is it?" They said "Oh, it was sent standard shipping" and will arrive tomorrow.

Plus they sent it to the wrong address.

I will never buy another Magellan product. Ever.

I've found voice recognition in the Garmin Nuvi 880 to be fantastic.

Tim

Thanks for your feed back earlier regarding my disaster with the Magellan 4050 voice recognition.Which brings me to another dilemma,I have determined that I really like the voice recognition of the 4050, which the 760 doesn't have. What I'm probably gonna do is return both of them and buy the nuvi 880. My question to you is what have you heard regarding the reliability of the voice recognition on the 880?

PS-Scott
My 660 was extremely accurate showing the turn into my driveway from the street. The Magellan left me out on the street.

Scott,
You have probably read my posts on the Maestro experience. Sorry you had to suffer a similar fate. I'm waiting for the nuviphone to come out to replace my stolen nuvi 660. Good luck with the Garmin.

"After having the Garmin 650, the Magellan Maestro 3100 and the Garmin 550 street pilot. I must say out of these three I was most impressed with the accuracy of the 3100 Magellan, even being a base model it was far more accurate than the other two. My 650 for some unknown reason was always 500 feet off of every destination upon my arrival and the 550 street pilot was always routing me in the wrong direction. The 3100 Magellan on the other hand didn’t have all the bells and whistles that the Garmin had but was it ever accurate. As i pulled up into my garage it would tell me that I had arrived, not 500 ft down the street or 2 houses down. When they say within 15 feet, I tell you they mean it! Just to show my loyalty to Magellan I have gone out and bought the 4050 model today, if it works anything like their base model then I have certainly made a good choice, If it works like most of the bad reviews I have read than you will be hearing from me again real soon. Untill then old habits die hard."

Looks like I put my foot in my mouth!

Well Old habits do die Hard I have now had the pleasure of owning a Magellan 4050 for the last 24 hours and now have gone out and bought a Garmin Nuvi 760 within the same 24 hours. What a piece of junk the Magellan 4050 was, I haven't even had it 24 hours and the voice command has stopped working, it has also consistently routed me in the wrong direction all day long. I tell you one thing, I didn't play around I boxed that 4050 up today for mail out tomorrow back to Radio Shack, went up to Best Buy and overpaid for a Nuvi 760 at $499.00. At this stage I'm so pissed off at Magellan I didn't care. Could that be why they are giving them away? (Magellan Maestro Series)

Scott, your experience is very odd since all of those devices use the same map database.
