Magellan has announced a new partnership with AAA to provide a customized version of their RoadMate for AAA members. The device, called the Magellan RoadMate AAA RS2.0 has a few features that will not be available on other RoadMates.

AAA TourBook guide listings are incorporated into the POI database on this new RoadMate and feature AAA rated hotels, attractions, and restaurants. Only some regions will carry the RoadMate AAA RS2.0 — the Mid Atlantic, California, Western and Central New York, and Auto Club South will initially be offering the device in their offices and on their websites.

“AAA is synonymous with automotive travel and safety, so we’re pleased to be working with them on unique solutions for the more than 15 million members that these four clubs serve,” said Hubert Canuet, general manager of the Magellan OEM business. “The Magellan RoadMate AAA RS2.0 not only offers the standard in auto navigation excellence to AAA members but also provides an exclusive value to members with the integration of the AAA TourBook guide listings.”

Based on earlier existing RoadMate models, the AAA model RoadMate is 5×4x1.5 inches, provides a 3.5 inch touch screen 3D display as well as a MP3 music player and a photo viewer. Approximately 20 “vias” per route are supported.

  1. I JUST HAD THE AAA RS2.0 DEMONSTRATED TO ME– LOOKS GREAT EXCEPT IT DOES NOT LOCATE ROADSIDE REST AREAS ALONG FREEWAYS AS OTHER GPS MODELS I’VE SEEN.
CAN THE AAA MODEL DO THIS? CAN THIS FEATURE BE ADD IF NOT??
ALSO WILL IT NOTIFY THE USER OF TRAFFIC BACKUPS, CONSTRUCTION AREAS AND OR ACCIDENTS WITH ALTERNATE ROUTS?

  2. I PURCHASED A MAGELLAN GPS ON 5/11/09
SPECIFICALLY FOR A TRIP I HAD TO MAKE IN
THE MOUNTAINS OF UPSTATE PA. I NEEDED TO USE A GPS AND I BANKED ON AAA BACKING ON THIS PRODUCT.
I WENT ON MY TRIP AND THE MAGELLAN 4250 DID NOT WORK. IT KEPT SHUTTING OFF.
A ENTIRE WEEKS WORK WAS A DISASSTER WITHOUT A GPS TO GUIDE ME OVER THOSE MT. ROADS. MY REASON FOR PURCHASING WAS BECAUSE OF THIS TRIP.
I GOT HOME TODAY AND CALLED MAGELLAN AND THEY TOLD ME HOW TO GET IT WORKING AGAIN. HOWEVER WOULD NOT OFFER ANY KIND OF RETRIBUTION FOR MY LOSS AND INTENDED REASON FOR PURCHASING THIS ITEM. I WOULD LIKE SOME KIND OF COMPENSATION! LONG TIME AAA MEMBER!!.
