Magellan made a huge announcement today, releasing Magellan TrafficKit, real time traffic information in North American for the Magellan RoadMate GPS receivers. The system uses NAVTEQ traffic information to provide a heads up of traffic accidents or just traffic flow problems that could impact your route. The system will be available in April.

Magellan TrafficKit will be compatible with the Magellan RoadMate 760 and the Magellan RoadMate 700 after a software update from Magellan’s website. TrafficKit uses traffic information passed via FM radio frequencies for many major metropolitan areas in North America.

“Adding real-time traffic information is a valuable component to the route-calculation equation that will make the Magellan RoadMate 760 and 700 even more effective and intuitive,” said Christian Bubenheim, Vice President and General Manager of Thales’ Magellan Consumer Business. “With the Magellan TrafficKit, drivers can avoid sitting in traffic and feel confident they’ll know the best time-saving route available. This is the kind of customer convenience and user experience that will continue to guide our product developments in the future.”

Initial monthly service fees will be included when you purchase select Magellan GPS devices.
