Quebec Gives Nod To GPS… Almost

Jul

2007

Quebec has always done things just a little bit different than the rest of North America, and that has held true with their longstanding ban on GPS devices in cars. Quebec’s highway safety agency has previously maintained that things like GPS navigation systems were a hazard to drivers who could become distracted by the screen. But, later this fall it is anticipated that the rules will officially change and Quebec motorists will be allowed to use GPS legally.

Much like stories we’ve heard from California and their law regarding windshield mounts, we also hear that very few people have ever been ticketed in Quebec for using a GPS and police have often looked the other way. Still it is good to see that in-car navigation will now be legal through Quebec.
