Aug

2005

Thales has announced that their Project 25 radios are now GPS aware. The units will communicate with any GPS device that can output in the industry standard NMEA 0183 format. The information can then be sent as part of the P25 voice channel.

The software can be set to transmit location information every time the push-to-talk button is activated or at predetermined intervals. MRT says the service could be used by the National Park Service to track rangers as well as provide mappin ginformation.
