The looping issue has been addressed and fixed now by TomTom. My 920T was doing the same thing. Search the TomTom website and you will see the solution is there.

Basically, the file which deals with preferences needs to be deleted. You will need to reset your preferences. That took care of my issue.

Right now it runs $9.95 per month for a bundled package that includes ALL the live update material. I have one..I pay the $9.95 per month because I don't know how many times the unit has re-routed me and saved me gas, and time. It has saved me more than 4 gallons of gas a month. (cost of live service) Go buy one and sign up for the service. Trust me it will save you more than the cost of the service in gas and time.

The maps in Purto Rico are very old and inacurate. Yes the traffic guidance is very very slo (late). Yhe voice command is a jolk, it couldn't understand two people.
The traffic is good. BTW, where did all my data go? GPS heaven?
conclusion: wish I coud return this crap

I'm looking at buying either the 740 Live or the 730.

The only 2 things leading me towards the 740Live are the better design of the mount and the Google Live service.

However, the cost differential currently is about $120 more for the Live.

Is the 730 mount that obnoxious? Also, is Google live available via upgrade on any older models?

Thanks

It is unfortunate that TomTom doesn't offer any repair services giving customers the option, however repairs are rarely cost beneficial. Garmin for example offers repair services, but they typically charge $75 to evaluate a device and the minimum repair cost is typically about $150. (Based on people I've talked to who have asked about repair services.) While you paid a bunch for the GPS new, there are now some places that sell the 73 for about $150. So for about the same cost as a repair you could purchase a new GPS which likely has newer maps installed. It is just rarely cost effective to repair versus replace an out of warranty device.

Sound like a nice gps but a word of caution. I have a GO730 whic I like. It started having a looping issue. The tech people at Tom Tom wer fantastic but could not fix it. Since my unit was 13 months old it was out of warranty. I said fine I will pay to have it repaired, they told me there are no repairs to out of warranty units-none! So I know have a 13 month old 730 brick for whcih I paid over $350. I do not think I will be buying any more Tom Tom products, a shame because I like the features.

Tim,
Thanks for this review. One thing I wanted to comment on regarding traffic was in regard to whether incident details are important. Maybe it depends on how good the traffic reporting is in general, but from my experience knowing that the delay was the result of a major incident that could potentially affect the road for hours was important. I'm not really sure how a PND handles a road closure due to an overturned tanker, but unless I know that's what happened, or the PND informs me that there is a significant delay (60 minutes, 120, etc) I might opt to stay on a highway, which would turn out to be a bad idea. Again, maybe I'm making some assumptions, whether the incident details have been reported, they are accurate, the timing of when I reach the incident, etc, but I would think, in general, that having them would be preferred.
