TomTom Car Kit Vanishes?

The TomTom Car Kit (charger, cradle, GPS chip for iPhone app) has just about vanished from existence almost as soon as it became available. A check just a few minutes ago at the Apple Store showed a shipping estimate of 1-2 months from now. Similarly a check at tomtom.com showed the Car Kit models for both the iPhone and iPod touch were “currently unavailable”. For now we can only speculate why inventory available is zero…
Perhaps they will fix some of the deficiences? I was so hoping the unit would work with a case. I will test the Magellan version at Best Buy in 2 weeks when they get in. I have the Otterbox case which probably won’t work based on posts. I may have to go with a “lighter” case. I have to remove the case to work with my IPOD dock for my AV receiver also.
