TomTom Cleared to Purchase Tele Atlas
While they were cleared in North America awhile back, the EU has now cleared TomTom to go ahead and purchase Tele Atlas without large restrictions. So what does this mean for ordinary GPS users? This means that all of that cool data TomTom has been collecting from users, such as MapShare changes to the road network and speed data from IQ Routes will probably start flowing back down to Tele Atlas. Currently changes made in MapShare only go out to other MapShare users and not back into the original map. The speed data will make routing decisions and ETA values more accurate. There are also hints that map updates could become even more frequent. TomTom/Tele Atlas are already offering map updates on a quarterly basis, more often than most other GPS companies are spitting them out.
