I've had a few stability issues with HOME as well, but nothing that dramatic.

Tim, Your info here is a God-send. Thanks.

The TomTomHome computer software has a serious defect: if you don’t do things exactly as expected by some Korean programmers, it destroys the SD card, trashing all favorites & itineraries, and it also corrupts the host computer system, such that it has to be rebooted. My Windows system is well maintained so that is not the problem. I have re-downloaded TomTomHome in case they have ‘upgraded’ it but to no avail. Also bought another SD card in case that was it, but it wasn’t.

The first time around the very helpful TomTom tech talked me through a reformat of the card and then a free download of the USA/Canada map and the Application file & the voices. Btw, you can delete the unneeded voices to gain some space for more Favorites.
Now whenever I plan to run TomTomHome I backup the card first, which is a good idea anyhow. I pull the card from the TomTom and plug it into my computer. I create a new folder in my computer for this purpose which I name TOMTOM. I then open Windows Explorer (Start button - Accessories) ‘Select All’ files and drag (copy) them from the card to the new TOMTOM folder. That’s it.

If you don’t want to mess with folders then get a ‘USB 2.0 Flash Drive’, 1G or greater, and drag everything from the SD card to the USB stick, and visa-versa.

There are many ways to do this (i.e.: Select All – right-click – Send To – Removable Disk). Etc.

Then when the card gets corrupted, I just do the opposite to get it working again. Reformat it first. Likewise to load a 2nd SD card that I can throw in the glove compartment in case the original gets damaged or whatever. Another use for this procedure is to have different SD cards and/or computer folders loaded with different sets of Favorites and trip Itineraries.
