TomTom iPhone App 1.4

Jun

2010

TomTom’s new iPhone app is now out at version 1.4. Most notably the new version includes support for the new Apple iOS 4 and adds a host of new features. Most notably on iPhones that support multitasking the new app allows seamlessly taking and placing calls without leaving voice prompts behind.

A few other new features include new maps, the ability to share routes with contacts in your address book, the ability to add a departure reminder to your calendar, eco routing to save fuel, and custom car symbols.

  1. I upgraded this app from version 1.3. As a result I lost all my favorites. The upgrade form 1.2 –> 1.3 did not have this problem.

Good Job TT, now i need to add all contacts one again!

    • That is why I put all of my navigation contacts into the Address Book on the iPhone itself– they are accessible within the TomTom app and there is little risk of them falling out.

  2. I have always lost all app info when upgrading tomtom, ever since 1.0.

This time it lost my subscription to traffic. That’s not right. Never have gotten support from them. But it usually just works. Not looking forward to trying to get my traffic reinstated.

    • Randy, on mine I just went into the traffic settings, logged-in again, and my existing traffic subscription was reactivated.

      • Crazy, you are correct, it showed my login name, but I had to actually click it to be logged in. It looked the same when I was finished except it now recognized my subscription. Thanks!

  3. I really hope at some time Tom Tom adds Voice Recognition to the app and the possibility to port maps from Google maps on to the Iphone/Ipod Touch like some Tom Tom Sat Navs can…

  4. Does TomTom 1.4 do text to speech (i.e. announce road names as you come near them)? I know previously, when I reviewed navigation apps last fall, only AT&T’s app did that for the iPhone.

  6. Same thing happened to me as Oscar – but for my US/Canada app. Now that I installed the update and Apple’s iOS update on my iPhone 3GS the TomTom can find no GPS signal at all. HELP!

  7. Hi Kat

You are lucky as, after a long time, I found the solution:

PLease go to: “Settings”, and then to “General”, after which you click “location services”.

And in this menu you activate your Tom Tom (it should be in the listing)

    I hope it works!

    • Thank you so much! That was the ticket. Some day I’ll remember to check the basic things first (maybe).

      Thanks again for the help.

  8. Does the 1.4 version work well with the iPad?

  9. I don’t have the TomTom app installed on my iPad, but there may be a conflict because the Apple OS4 hasn’t been released for iPad yet.
