TomTom LIVE U-Turns to INRIX
INRIX and TomTom announced this morning that the TomTom LIVE services, such as those found in the TomTom 740 LIVE will start using traffic data from INRIX. Previously TomTom had been using TrafficCast on the 740 here in the USA. At the time, we said this about the traffic service:
At this point you won’t get me to say that the TrafficCast data is by itself better than the INRIX data used on other devices, including other TomTom devices.
The TrafficCast data wasn’t poor– it just didn’t seem like there were quite enough probe vehicles to give a consistent live traffic estimate.
In addition to live traffic services, the INRIX deal also gives TomTom access to dynamic fuel prices to power the fuel prices LIVE feature.

It is unclear when exactly the switch will be made over for current LIVE devices, however we will try to seek clarification.
