My tomtom was just stolen out of my vehicle. Is there a way I can get the serial number off of the tomtom program on my laptop?

The satellites bar only shows so many slots. That doesn't represent "all" of the satellites. Even so, there will not always be enough satellites visible to show all of the bars. Sometimes you might only have five or six bars showing and that is fine. The GPS doesn't need them all to calculate your position.

Tim,

I understand that they won't always be visible, but just recently my TT125 has not been syncing with all the satellites. The little symbol on the bottom right shows the strength or how many its synced up with and recently its either a couple bars from "full signal" or nothing at all and my screen is grayed.

Thanks for any help.

Hi John - That is the way GPS works. The satellites are in a geosynchronous orbit (not geostationary) and each of them orbit earth twice per day. So they are cruising around really fast relative to the ground and you will see them drift in and out of view. It will never sync with all of the satellites because at any given time at least half of them are on the other side of Earth and "hidden" from view.

I'm having an issue with my tt125. It doesn't always sync with all the satilights. I don't think its because of where I have it, its not covered. It will sync with all of them then after a little while some fall off...or it looses all of them. Anyone else having this issue?

The bottom edge, next to the USB connector, has a bar code and a number below the bar code. That is the serial number. Mine starts with PH... (Mine is a TT130-S)

I just purchased an update for my TT 125 and I also bought the quarterly updates for my TT. It did the update but it didn't do the quarterly one. The TT Home is telling me that there is a newer map for my TT, but it want to charge me again.

It told me I had to buy the update before I could do the quarterly updates. But now it wants to charge me again for another update????

What's up with that???

I have the 130-S which is essentially the same, with a couple of extra bells and whistles. The TT Home was supposed to load from the TT on first hookup to the computer by USB. But it didn't. I finally downloaded TT Home from the website, then plugged in the TT GPS, and the software found the GPS OK. It is useful to connect to Home periodically, because it automatically checks for software (not map) updates from their website.

I don't know if the deal is still available, but TT offered a year subscription of map updates for $40, with quarterly map updates. That is a good deal, at $10/update.

My only complaint is the screen is not bright enough on a bright day. But otherwise, I am very happy. Never had a glitch, yet - vastly more reliable than the Magellan, which would freeze up in the middle of a route very frequently.

As far as connecting the TT to your computer, make sure you use the usb cable that came with the unit that has the filter cylinder in line with it. Cheaper cables will cause errors or no-comm situations that can damage your solid state disk in the TT.
