TomTom ONE - North America vs Europe

Today TomTom announced details surrounding the North American version of the TomTom ONE. There is already a “ONE” in Europe, so what sets this ONE apart? That has been our most frequent question today, so let’s get right down to it and compare the two.

The first difference is the form factor. The North American version is smaller, measuring 3.8 x 3.2 x 1.0 inches and weighs 6.5 ounces. The European version measures 4.3 x 3.5 x 1.3 inches and weighs 9.2 ounces. So the North American version is 12.16 cubic inches compared to the 19.56 cubic inches of the European version.

Both have the same amount of RAM, but the North American version has a 266 MHz processor while the European version has a 380 MHz processor.

There is also additional interface language support in the North American ONE which supports 22 languages versus 18 on the European version. There are also a few more voice languages for spoken directions in the North American version.

Price is similar, at current published exchange rates the European version might be slightly more expensive.

So the biggest difference is size, the North American version of the ONE is much smaller and lighter. There is also a difference in processing speed, however I suspect this has more to do with the difference in map size between the North American and European version and I doubt there will be a significant speed difference between the European ONE and the North American TomTom ONE.
