TomTom QuickGPSfix

Through the TomTom HOME application, TomTom has added a new feature for TomTom 510 and TomTom 910 owners, QuickGPSfix. This feature allows your GPS to more quickly acquire a GPS signal. How does it work?

In order to locate your position, a GPS device needs to listen for the GPS satellites. In order to listen to the satellites, your GPS device needs to guess where to listen. When you you use QuickGPSfix, the TomTom HOME application will estimate where the satellites are going to be for the next seven days and tell your GPS device those locations.

Then so long as you use your GPS device within the next seven days it will have a better idea of where to start listening for satellites.

  1. I drive an oil truck, and it has a tom tom 510, I would be totally lost everyday if it wasn*t for tom tom. I was so impressed that I bought my own 510. Although my base docking station power cable does not work tom tom said they would send me a new one for free. I have two vehicles and I plan on switching it from vehicle to vehicle. But I do think they could make it easier if they programmed the damn thing from the factory, I had problems with the whole cd-rom disk thing, and the dirrections are very unclear, I*m not stupid, but I had to call, just to get the thing to come on. Now if I could charge it from home I*d be all set, well good luck to all those who chose the 510 like I did.
