TomTom announced last week that the RIDER GPS designed for motorcycle use, has been upgraded with new features. New TomTom RIDER 2nd Edition devices will ship with the new software. Existing owners of the 2nd Edition or the original TomTom RIDER will also be able to update their software with the new features. So what do you get?

TomTom RIDER Trip StatisticsMany of the features rolled out in the newer TomTom devices will now be available such as Fuel prices, the ‘Help Me!’ page, and MapShare. In addition, there is now a “trip statistics” page with information such as max speed, total miles, average speed, and moving time. You can see a screenshot of this to the right.

“We aim to provide all TomTom customers with the highest-quality navigation experience available,” said TomTom Inc. president Jocelyn Vigreux. “Now, RIDER customers have the same innovative features as users of our automobile products, most notably TomTom Map Share(TM) and Help Me!. And, bikers who use the enhanced RIDER 2nd Edition can find the lowest fuel prices on their route and avoid heavy traffic areas — services that can be particularly helpful as the summer travel season approaches.”

  2. I upgraded my TomTom Rider with the new software. I now realize that my TomTom does not turn off automatically when I turn the ignition off on my motorcycle. This is a poor decision on TomTom’s part as it results in battery failure, not to mention the inconvenience of having to turn my TomTom off manually each time I turn off my motorcycle. Bad decision TomTom!!
