OK, a lesson learned. However, it’s worth pointing out that Tom Tom is very sparing with its use of part numbers and does not distinguish between the European and North American versions of its RDS-TMC receiver or even the versions needed for its range of GPS models. So it’s very easy in this global marketplace to order the wrong thing, even when the part number is known. Maybe Tom Tom can fix this.

You need the North America traffic receiver in North America. The UK traffic receiver is designed to work with the European traffic system and will not work in North America. The receivers are different.

I have the Tom Tom XL 330 in Canada, and downloaded the free USA-Canada map update that came with it. That mostly works fine. I have now received the RDS-TMC 9V00 101 traffic receiver from a UK supplier. My device tells me this traffic receiver will not work with my map version. Question: Is the problem that I need to buy a new version of the USA-Canada map? Or should I have ordered my RDS-TMC receiver from North America rather than the UK?

I have tried to get maps for my Garmin in Mexico and except for Mexico City, there aren’t any.
Not sure about Tomtom since I can’t figure out how to use either their website or GPS.

I keep my XL330 plugged into my PC with the USB cord when it is not in use so that the battery stays charged. The unit will turn itself on from time to time. I haven’t been able to connect this to any other event, I just walk into the room and find it on. When it happens I push the button to trun it off and all is well until the next time. Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening? I doubt that it is doing any real harm but it’s just really annoying.

Sorry…I do have the XL 330s. I was under the understanding that the unit is supposed to speak the street names. It only says (for example) “Turn left in 400′ I’d like it to name the street that I am supposed to turn on. Can that be changed in the preferences?
Please advise.

Joel, the XL 330 does not have text-to-speech. The XL 330s does.

My new 330 XL does not speak the street names when telling me to turn. It only says “turn left in 400′” etc.
Isn’t this unit supposed to speak the street names?
How do I re-set the menu prefernces et?

The 330 can be charged at home with the usb cable hooled up to you computer. Just plug it in and leave the unit off if you are not down loading anything from TomTom Home.
